Kristine Ann Tan Bernal was born on May 17, 1989 in Quezon City to Edgardo Bernal, who currently resides in the United States and works in a semiconductor company, and Analyn Tan, who is a housewife. She is the third in a brood of 4. She has twin older sisters Kathleen Ann and Katherine Ann, who are also models, and has a younger brother named Miguel.
She studied her elementary education in Diliman Preparatory School and Holy Family School, and continued her secondary education in Holy Family School. For college, she studied at Trinity University of Asia with nursing as her course, and where she is also a dean's lister.
While a Nursing student at the Trinity University of Asia, she indulged herself in theater activities joining the University's Talento Entablado Trinitia At Isang Respetadong Organisasyon (T.E.A.T.R.O.). During her freshman year, she joined a pageant and won. She was given the title “Ms. Trinity”. This paved the way for her becoming the face of the University's advertisement.
As of now, Bernal has decided to stop school temporarily since she has been busy with tapings and rehearsals. But her university has given her some consideration since she is a Dean's Lister. The school has asked her to comply with some projects and requirements and submit them until March, before the school year ends.
Media Exposure
In 2005, while at a mall with her older sister, a saleslady approached them and said that there was a contest for Clean and Clear. The saleslady said that the sisters were pretty and asked if she could take a picture. Kris and her sister thought that there’s no harm in trying and decided to give it a try. A few weeks later, they were informed that they won the contest, thus, making them instant cover models of Meg magazine’s April 2005 issue and P100,000 richer.
In 2006, she appeared as the leading lady in Rocksteddy's music video for their song, Magpakailanman.
Moreover, she has appeared in a few product endorsements including the Ponds' Sky photoshoot with Claudine Barretto as the lead.
Starstruck
It was her mother who encouraged this former teen magazine cover girl to audition for Starstruck. She, like all the other people who wanted to pursue their dreams lined up and auditioned for the new batch of the search. Bernal had to go through several acting, singing and dancing challenges for 12 weeks. Dramatic acting proved to be her main forte as the show progressed. She was named Best Actress by a number of guest directors of the show, including Laurice Guillen (DramaFlicks "Ikot" February 25, 2007), Khryss Adalia (Survivor vs. Avenger Female Face-Off "Ms. Rose" February 13, 2007), and Rico Gutierrez (TV Public Service Announcement Test March 7, 2007).
On March 25 2007 in Marikina Sports Park, Bernal, along with Mart Escudero, were named as the Ultimate Loveteam. The announcement was a surprise to many because she was earlier paired with Aljur Abrenica. She received P1 million in cash and a P2-million talent build-up contract from GMA, a franchise from Belgian Waffle Express, a two-year scholarship from Informatics worth P120,000, and P170,000 in cash and gifts from Calayan Surgicenter. In addition, she won the Female Texter's Choice Award with 177,600 votes giving her a commercial endorsement for BNY together with the Male Texter's Choice awardee, Aljur Abrenica.
